Tokyo Story wordt beschouwd als één van de meesterwerken van de Japanse cineast Yasujiro Ozu en terecht! Een ouder echtpaar - zelf wonend op het platteland - bezoekt hun kinderen in de grote de grote stad: zij hebben nauwelijks tijd voor hen. Alleen de schoondochter besteed aandacht aan hen. Hoe een en ander verder verloopt, ziet u beter zelf in deze film. Hoewel in 1953 uitgebracht, heeft het centrale thema relatie ouders-kinderen zeker niet aan actualiteit verloren. In onze huidige maatschappij met als kenmerk individualisme en vluchtige contacten verdient deze film een herwaardering en is het bekijken meer dan waard. De film Brothers and Sisters of the Toda Family is als toegift ook het bekijken waard.
