Carl (Matt Dillon) and Molly (Kate Hudson) have just got married and are eager to start their life together. But when Carl’s best friend Dupree (Owen Wilson) loses his job, his company car and his apartment, Carl being a good friend, allows him to move in until he’s back on his feet. But as the days go by and Dupree’s bachelor lifestyle starts to kick in, Carl and Molly’s relationship is put to the test.
