The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

5 sterren van maximaal 5

When reviewing a remake, I prefer to focus on the things that have changed rather than the main game itself. We already know how good or bad people consider The Wind Waker to be, therefore, my score reflects the improvements upon what was in the original. As far as the main quest is concerned, the experience is now streamlined, fluid and most of all intriguing from start to finish. Various additions such as the swift sail, tingle bottle and hero mode make for a far less tiresome and a much more challenging game. While it is still very easy to complete without a game over, there WILL be occasions when you'll WISH you'd have bought a potion or bottled a fairy. Sailing with the swift sail makes me wonder how we even coped with the original speeds, as well as the omission of 5 triforce charts, reducing the 'fetch-quest-filler' portion of the game considerably. The HD graphics are sublime, though admittedly more noticeable when 'outside' and bloom lighting is aplenty. I could have mistaking the indoor areas for the original game released 10 years ago. Some animations have been sped up, playing songs only yields one cutscene per play through, it's all about timesaving with this game. We already know it was short, but Nintendo have removed the parts that made such a compact adventure into a confusingly drawn out adventure. This is admittedly one of my favourite Zeldas, if you haven't played the title before, this is the version for you, by far. The Ocarina of Time 3D, was merely a texture bump in my eyes. WWHD, on the other hand, is a refinement at its best. Enjoy!
