For the first time in HD, Nintendo's Mario Kart franchise comes to the Wii U console, introducing new racing circuit designs and anti-gravity karts that will have players driving upside down. Players will also enjoy a variety of series-favourite features, including the return of 12-player online competitive play, hang-gliders, underwater racing, and motorbikes.
The anti-gravity feature allows for never-imagined racing circuit designs. Players will speed through courses and find themselves suddenly racing on walls in a haunted mansion or upside-down over Princess Peach's Castle as their wheels automatically rotate and shift into anti-gravity gear.
Mario Kart TV lets players share highlight videos they submitted to Miiverse. Crisp HD graphics and a 60-frames-per-second frame rate offer players the most visually stunning entry in the series yet.
Experience a wealth of features that span the series, including 12-player online competitive play. Elements first introduced in Mario Kart 7, such as hang gliders and underwater racing, along with elements introduced in Mario Kart Wii, such as motorbikes and performing tricks in midair, also make their return.
Fan-favourites Waluigi and Toadette re-join the cast of familiar characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, including returning characters such as Metal Mario, Lakitu, and Shy Guy.
This time around, take to the starting grid with Bowser's minions, with all available as playable characters for the first time ever. Will Iggy, Larry, Ludwig, Morton, Roy, and Wendy pip Mario and co to the podium?

- Spin Turbo - While racing upside down or on walls, players can bump into other racers or certain course obstacles to get a speed boost. Spin Turbo fundamentally redefines the way that players compete, and makes anti-gravity racing even more exhilarating.
- New items - Two new items join the fray in Mario Kart 8. First, the Piranha Plant attaches to the front of the player's kart and chomps at other characters, banana peels on the course, and even shells thrown by other characters. Each time the Piranha Plant lunges forward to bite, the player receives a brief boost of speed. The second new item is the Boomerang Flower. After acquiring it, racers can throw a boomerang at opponents to stun them, and its arc allows players to strike multiple opponents with a single toss. The boomerang can be thrown three times, forward or backwards.
- New courses - Remixed classic courses make a return in Mario Kart 8, with favourites such as Moo Moo Meadows from Mario Kart Wii, Toad's Turnpike from Mario Kart 64, and Donut Plains from Super Mario Kart, among others. The graphics and layout of these courses have been redesigned and reimagined – for example, Toad's Turnpike now allows players to drive up certain walls in anti-gravity mode. The game will include 16 new courses and 16 remixed classic courses.
- Live recorded music - For the first time in the Mario Kart series, select courses in Mario Kart 8 feature music recorded by live performers.
- Control scheme - Mario Kart 8 supports a variety of control schemes including the Wii U GamePad, the Wii U Pro Controller, the Wii Wheel, and Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The game can also be played in off-TV mode using just the Wii U GamePad.
- Mario Kart 8 has now been made to be fully compatible with amiibo. Use amiibo in Mario Kart 8 in a number of ways and even train it to become better in the game!

GEWELDIG!
Mario Kart 8 is een absoluut pareltje voor de Wii U. De nieuwe tracks zijn ontzettend mooi ontworpen, de gameplay is feilloos goed en de game is in de 150cc ontzettend uitdagend. Ook de online modus werkt super en voor je het weet ben je alweer een paar uur verder. En dan ziet de game er ook nog 's prachtig uit! Er zijn een aantal characters die je kunt unlocken en verder kan je een heleboel karts, motors, quads, wielen en vliegers/parachutes etc. vrijspelen. Verder zijn er 8 cups dus 32 banen. Voor elke klasse (50cc, 100cc, 150cc) kan je deze cups spelen. Ook kan je nog de Mirror klasse vrijspelen waar banen gespiegeld zijn. Dus nog 's een aantal cups er bij :). Ook de nieuwe wapens zijn erg leuk. De Piranha Plant hapt naar alles wat ze ziet, is er een luchthoorn die ook het blauwe schild kan weren en met de Magic 8 heb je 8 items om af te vuren. Als je nog twijfelt over de aanschaf van een Wii U dan is dit het moment. Haal dan ook gelijk de andere toppers die er zijn zoals Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 en de diverse Mario Platform games.

Het is mij een genoegen om deze game bij zavvi te kopen. Uitstekende verzendtijd en goed verpakt! En daar bovenop de beste prijs die ik heb kunnen vinden voor dit spel! In een woord geweldige game! Het is alles wat ik verwachtte van een next gen mario kart game. De 3ds versie vond ik echt tof met het aanpassen van je kar, maar hier wordt het nog veel beter! Meer aanpassingsmogelijkheden en gave wagens. De graphics zijn buitengewoon goed zoals verwacht van een Nintendo game, maar dit haalt voor mij nieuwe records. Het is niet per definitie mooi in het opzicht van realistisch, maar het ziet er gewoon erg polished en aantrekkelijk uit net als mario 3d world. Precies wat ik van een game verwacht. Daarnaast maakt de resolutie het helemaal compleet en een wereld van verschil met de 1e wii. De gameplay is ook geweldig. Het speelt allemaal soepel en geen enkele fps drop kunnen merken. De controls zijn responsive en het sliden is nooit eerder zo fijn geweest. Het meest belangrijke is misschien nog wel hoe leuk dit spel is. De meeste spellen tegenwoordig ben ik zo op uitgespeeld. Spellen zoals Watch dogs, BF4 heb ik gekocht en een tijdje gespeeld, maar die halen bij lange na niet de herspeelbaarheid van dit spel. Dit spel blijf je gewoon spelen met je vrienden, familie, maar ook online. Het blijft een uitdaging om je rank online zo hoog mogelijk te maken en dat maakt het voor mij de leukste game sinds tijden!

Ik heb een Wiiu gekocht speciaal voor de Mario games en deze kart game is een regelrechte voltreffer. Mario in HD over de vele kleurrijke banen laten racen offline en online samen met of tegen je familie, vrienden of andere raceliefhebbers. Gegarandeerd vele uren topvermaak, makkelijk op te pikken maar ook voor de gevorderde gamers biedt de game voldoende uitdaging in de zwaardere raceklasses. Dus niet twijfelen als je een Wiiu hebt en anders is dit zeker het moment om een Wiiu aan te schaffen.!
