On July 21st 1983, the legendary Diana Ross took the stage in New York's Central Park before an audience of over 400,000. The show would go down in history as a landmark in her career as pouring rain and heavy wind threatened to put an end to the show, but Diana pushed on urging the drenched crowd to remain calm and stay with her saying “It took me a lifetime to get here and I’m not going anywhere!”
Eventually the torrential storm put an end to the performance half-way through, but not before a devastated Diana promised her fans she would return the next day, as she stayed on the microphone to guide people out of the park. “The entire park was wall-to-wall people,’ Ross remembered. “It was an electrical storm. It was alive with energy… an incredible moment of my career. The rain came down like sheets of shimmering glass. I think about that day that turned into night. I wasn’t afraid, even though many were afraid for me. I just wanted the thousands that came to the performance to be safe. My dream came pouring down.”True to her word, Diana returned and performed the entire concert again on July 22nd to the delight of all her fans.
Initially broadcast live around the world, this renowned concert remained largely unseen for 30 years, and has previously unreleased on DVD, until now. Featuring including the entire concert special as it was broadcast, as well as the original rain-shortened concert as a unique bonus feature, the DVD also includes liner notes by Diana Ross herself and a new commentary by director Steve Binder.
