Prachtverhaal over een getrouwde jonge vrouw die zichzelf wil ontwikkelen, tegen de verdrukking in onder leiding van een professor literatuur studeert, en daardoor geleidelijk niet meer in haar oorspronkelijk (laag) milieu past. Een voorbeeld voor hedendaagse vrouwen. Uitstekend acteertalent van Michael Caine en Julie Walters.
