beter dan de remake
Een sfeervolle, typische jaren 70 actie-thriller, waarvan in 2011 de remake verscheen met in de hoofdrol Jason Statham. Hoewel de remake zeker niet slecht is, haalt deze het niet bij het origineel. Het origineel heeft een tweetal pluspunten. Als eerste Charrles Bronson op het toppunt van zijn roem. Hij speelt zijn rol van gelouterde huurmoordenaar zoals we van hem gewend zijn: stoicijns. De rol van zijn protege wordt gespeeld door Jan-Michael Vincent, en dit is meteen het tweede pluspunt van de film. Hoewel vooral bekend van de serie Airwolf, heeft hij ook een aantal prima films afgeleverd, waaronder Hooper, Hard Country en natuurlijk teh Mechanic. De chemie tussen de twee acteurs is duidelijk aanwezig, en zowel de actie-scenes als de opbouw er naar toe zijn dik in orde. Onmisbaar in iedere Charles Bronson collectie
