Farce and fiasco in this screwball comedy set in the corporate world
Mike Binder wrote, directed, and stars alongside Alan Rickman in this award-winning comedy set in corporate London
An American businessman and his wife are summoned to London oversee an impending business merger.
Unknown to him, Matthew Barnes is being groomed to replace John Gissing , his British counterpart. Gissing, in the meantime, has seen the storm brewing for some time and has no intention of giving up his position without a fight.
Instead Gissing cunningly unleashes his inner Machiavelli and sends the American couple on a comical series of disastrous misadventures, in an attempt to turn their lives upside down and undermine his rival.
From arriving late to key meetings, to a humiliating encounter with a French colleague, to finding himself in a compromising position with a lusty nun, life for Barnes becomes a living hell.
Alan Rickman steals the show as the scheming Brit, and lookout for Juliet Stevenson, who also co-starred with Rickman in Truly, Madly, Deeply, as his hilariously exasperated colleague.
Winner of the Best Picture Award at the 2002 Sarasota film Festival.
This is a very funny film, sometimes uproariously so, but it's also low-key and measured Variety
