Set across three defining eras from 20 years of Sonic the Hedgehog video game history, the instantly recognisable environments of Sonic Generations™ have been re-built in stunning HD and are now playable in both classic side scrolling 2D from 1991, as well as modern 3D style found in Sonic’s most recent adventures. Each incarnation of Sonic in Sonic Generations™ comes complete with his trademark special move, Spin Dash and Spin Attack for Classic Sonic, and Homing Attack and Sonic Boost for Modern Sonic. An innovative new interactive menu system allows for complete immersion in Sonic’s universe with favourite characters and hidden treasures gradually being revealed throughout the game.

Sonic’s universe is thrown into chaos when a mysterious new power creates ‘time holes’ which pull him and his friends back through time. As a result he encounters some surprises from his past history including Classic Sonic, Sonic as he appeared in 1991. Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic must defeat this strange new enemy, save their friends, and find out who really is behind this diabolical deed...

Best of both worlds!
Na een paar slechtere titels in de Sonic spellen reeks is er met dit spel eindelijk weer een echte leuke titel! Je kan namelijk spelen met de 'oude' Sonic en met de 'nieuwe' Sonic. De eerstgenoemde heeft de welbekende 2D sidescrolling gameplay en de laatste de 3d omgevingen van de laatste jaren (alleen nu wel goed uitgewerkt!). Je hebt een level helemaal uitgespeeld als je met zowel de 2D als 3D Sonic de finish hebt gehaald. Je moet elke keer 3 levels doorlopen voordat je bepaalde challenges vrijspeelt waarmee je sleutels kan verdienen om de baas van die levelset vrij te spelen. Die challenges verschillen van racen tegen een vriend of vijand, een level doorlopen met behulp van speciale vaardigheden of bijvoorbeeld zorgen dat je met een bepaald aantal ringen de finish haalt. Per level en per Sonic zijn er 5 challenges te doen. Je hoeft er om de baas vrij te spelen echter maar 1 per level te halen. De bazen zijn leuk uitgewerkt en er zijn ook een soort van tussenbazen te vinden zodra je de challenges vrijgespeeld hebt. Ook deze zijn leuk om te verslaan en iedereen die Sonic spellen gespeeld heeft zal ze ook meteen herkennen. Verder zijn er mijns inziens maar een paar kleine minpuntjes, zoals een soms net iets te laat reagerende Sonic en heel af en toe een niet logisch level verloop, maar over het algemeen is dit een leuk spel voor jong en oud!
